Tuğcu: Lack of Air Conditioner Maintenance Caused Güneşköy Transformer Blast
Electricity Authority Workers’ Union (El-Sen) chairman Ahmet Tuğcu said the explosion at the Güneşköy Transformer Station was caused by a lack of maintenance on the transformer’s air conditioning units.
Speaking about the incident that occurred in the early hours, Tuğcu stressed that the failure to service the air conditioners led to the blast, adding that the situation had been building up “in plain sight.”
Following the transformer explosion in Güneşköy, power outages have been reported across the country. Electricity distribution began gradually after safety checks at power plants were completed, but full restoration has yet to be achieved due to the scale of the fault.
The outage has also disrupted essential services, including the social security system and water supply networks.
