Şahali Criticizes PM Üstel Over Energy Failures

Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Secretary General Erkut Şahali accused Prime Minister Ünal Üstel of negligence, abuse, and corruption at KIB-TEK, responding sharply to Üstel’s recent comments on energy issues.

Şahali challenged Üstel’s statement that “trying to gain political advantage from difficulties does not align with social responsibility,” emphasizing that KIB-TEK reports directly to the prime minister and has suffered continuous losses due to neglect, misuse, and corrupt tenders.
“We called for transparent procurement of power plants, fuel, spare parts, and consumables, and for KIB-TEK to be staffed with qualified personnel serving the public. Instead, you said, ‘We are making history in energy.’ You boasted where you should feel ashamed,” Şahali said.
Responding to Üstel’s assertion that being in government requires respect for constructive criticism, Şahali said, “This is precisely an attempt to exploit the crisis for political gain.”
He held Üstel responsible for transformer explosions, power plant failures, transmission line breaks, and the collapse of infrastructure due to neglect, accusing him of covering up reality by blaming Greek Cypriots, sabotage, and unrealistic projects. “It’s not working; you can’t do it,” Şahali added.
