Alithia newspaper reported that the federation demanded Khan’s immediate removal from his post following his entry into the TRNC via Ercan Airport and meeting with President Ersin Tatar. The letter accused Khan of violating the UK’s longstanding policy and international legitimacy by engaging with the “illegal regime” not recognized by any country other than Turkey, including posing for photos with its symbols.

The federation also claimed that Khan’s visit contravened the UK’s obligations under the 1944 Chicago Convention and sabotaged not only Britain’s long-standing Cyprus policy but also efforts toward a political solution based on a bi-communal, bi-zonal federal framework ensuring political equality between the two communities.

The report added that the Cyprus (Greek) News Agency (KYPE) contacted the UK Foreign Office, which responded that Khan’s visit was made in a personal capacity, not as a Trade Envoy, and that the government had not been informed of the visit beforehand.
