Poll Suggests Christodoulides May Not Make It to Second Round in 2028 Elections

In the south of Cyprus, a poll conducted by Cypronetwork indicates that only 19% of respondents believe President Nikos Christodoulides will advance to the second round of the 2028 presidential elections, while 52% are certain he will run again. The survey also suggests a tight race between AKEL and DISY in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

According to a report in Politis, when asked “Which two candidates do you think will make it to the second round of the presidential elections?”, 26% of participants named Odysseas Michaelides, 22% DISY leader Annita Demetriou, 19% President Christodoulides, 18% former DISY leader Averof Neofytou, 15% Paphos Mayor Phedonas Phedonos, and 13% Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras.

When asked “Who do you think will run in the 2028 presidential elections?”, 52% of respondents said they were certain Christodoulides would seek re-election, 51% mentioned Michaelides, 41% Demetriou, 39% Neofytou, 29% Phedonos, and 21% Vyras.

Parliamentary Elections

The poll also showed that AKEL and DISY are likely to face a close contest to become the leading party in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

If parliamentary elections were held next Sunday, 17% of respondents said they would vote for AKEL, 16% for DISY, 13% for ELAM, 9% for the political movement ALMA, and 6% for DIKO.
