Tatar Condemns Attacks on UK MP Afzal Khan After TRNC Visit

Tatar said the intolerant statements and disproportionate attacks are unacceptable and represent a continuation of the long-standing isolation policy against the Turkish Cypriot community. He added that excluding the TRNC from international participation and contacts remains a key policy of the Greek Cypriot administration.

“The attacks on a foreign official visiting the TRNC are not only disrespectful to our guest but also an insult to the dignity and will of the Turkish Cypriot people,” Tatar said.

He criticized the Greek Cypriot side for rewarding tax evaders, punishing honest citizens, and maintaining policies that ignore cost-of-living challenges. Tatar emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot people deserve a future based on equal sovereignty and international status, and vowed to continue working toward that goal despite obstacles.

The UK MP’s visit, arranged at Tatar’s invitation, marked an important diplomatic engagement for the TRNC, highlighting ongoing tensions surrounding recognition and engagement on the island.
