Police Call for Information on 1964–1974 Missing Greek Cypriots

The Police General Directorate has urged anyone with information about Greek Cypriots who went missing or died between 1964 and 1974, and whose remains have been identified by the Committee on Missing Persons, to provide a statement at its headquarters in Nicosia. The appeal concerns cases from both phases of the 1974 military operation, as well as earlier incidents in the decade.

According to the statement, an effective investigation has been launched under the supervision of the Attorney General’s Office to determine the circumstances of death of those whose remains were recovered during excavations carried out by the Committee on Missing Persons and identified through DNA testing. The process follows applications made by the families of the missing to the European Court of Human Rights.
The Police General Directorate is calling on anyone with knowledge of the disappearance or death of the identified individuals, or their relatives, to come forward and give a statement in person at its Nicosia headquarters. Those wishing to arrange an appointment with the investigation team can contact +90 548 811 2179, or +90 548 811 2178 for English speakers.
