Ataser: Lapta Health Centre Is Important, But There Is a Need for 24/7 Service and On-Call Doctors

Lapta-Alsancak-Çamlıbel Mayor Fırat Ataser said that the renovated Lapta Health Centre is an important investment, but stressed that the region also needs a small hospital that would operate 24/7 with on-call doctors.

The Lapta Health Centre, with its renovated building and additional service area, was inaugurated on 12 August. The project, financed by the Ministry of Health and the Republic of Turkey, was completed in about a year. In the project, 344 square metres of the existing building were repaired, and a 196-square-metre annex was constructed.
Minister of Health Hakan Dinçyürek said the centre, with modern equipment and an enhanced team of doctors, would respond to the region’s population density. Mayor Ataser underlined the importance of the investment but added that the current centre would not fully meet the needs of the region and that a health facility functioning like a small hospital, offering 24/7 service with on-call doctors, was required.
Ataser: The Region Needs a Higher-Capacity Health Facility Planned According to Population
Speaking to Kıbrıs Postası, Mayor Ataser said that although Lapta-Alsancak-Çamlıbel is the largest area in Kyrenia district and there is strong demand, the current centre will not fully meet expectations. He emphasised that planning should be based on population, pointing out that a hospital is being built in Karaoğlanoğlu. With the growing population and new road projects, he reiterated the need for a higher-capacity hospital and noted that efforts to improve the existing centre would continue.
While the renovated Lapta Health Centre has begun operating, expectations regarding the region’s healthcare infrastructure remain high. Minister Dinçyürek stated that the centre was planned to respond to the region’s population density with modern equipment and a strengthened medical team. Calling it “one of the most concrete examples of the strong cooperation, shared vision, and unbreakable brotherhood between the TRNC and Turkey,” he announced that the project cost 32.5 million TL and described other health investments as the result of consistent government policies.
