Koop-Sen Continues Indefinite Strike

The Cooperative Workers’ Union (Koop-Sen) held a press statement at the Cooperative Companies Registrar as its indefinite strike at Koop-Süt, Zirai Levazım, and Binboğa Yem cooperatives entered its fifth day. Union President Mehmetali Güröz announced that the action would continue in front of the Registrar’s office until the dismissal decisions are reversed.

Koop-Sen emphasized that it is ready to reach an agreement with the government and resume production immediately, but it will not sacrifice workers’ rights or colleagues. The union also stated that from today onwards, demonstrations will continue in front of the Deputy Prime Ministry.
Mehmetali Güröz: “I Apologize to the Working and Producing People of Elye”
In his speech, Güröz said that the union is ready to work without extra pay, including weekends, to continue production, but called on the government to negotiate without further delay. He clarified that some of his previous statements were misunderstood and apologized to the people of Elye, stressing his solidarity with “the working and producing Elyelites.”
Güröz criticized the government, politicians, and cooperative management for passing responsibility to one another, leaving the union and its members to struggle.
“The Guilty Are Not the Employees, but the Managers”
Highlighting the 44 employees facing dismissal, Güröz announced that the official notice would be delivered today to the Registrar’s office, urging the officials not to sign it: “Do not participate. History will not forget you.” He held the officials appointed by the Democrat Party-led ministry responsible for the current crisis.
Güröz stressed that terminating employees would violate the collective labor agreement and insisted that the union would under no circumstances allow this: “We will not break the collective agreement, nor let it be broken.”
He also criticized the DP Secretary-General for the ministry’s approach toward unions and called for the removal of cooperative managers, arguing that the current leadership cannot bring a new vision to the cooperatives. Güröz demanded that the DP return cooperatives to government partners, stating: “You failed, and your time is up.”
Güröz concluded by reaffirming that their struggle will continue until the issues are resolved and that the union will act in unity: “We have no rights or colleagues to sacrifice.”
