Avcı: Misleading Information on New Traffic Cameras Must Be Cleared

Mehmet Zeki Avcı, President of the Traffic Accident Prevention Association, has called for clarification on the new traffic cameras, citing the spread of incomplete and contradictory information that has caused public confusion.

Avcı stressed that details about the cameras’ technical specifications, capabilities, evidentiary use in penalties, and potential judicial issues need to be clear before being communicated to the public, warning that premature or inaccurate information could trigger misinformed reactions.
He noted that fixed traffic cameras used worldwide, particularly in high-risk areas, have almost completely eliminated fatal accidents, emphasizing their undisputed positive impact on road safety.
Avcı urged that the new cameras be thoroughly discussed in the Traffic and Transportation Services Commission, with comprehensive briefings on technical capabilities, legal framework, implementation methods, and operational areas. Following this process, he recommended that authorities hold a press conference to share accurate information, which would help foster public acceptance.
Finally, Avcı called for immediate action to resolve the current misinformation and ensure the public is properly informed.
