Weekly Fire Report: 21 Fires and 29 Rescue Operations in One Week

According to the Fire Department, between 11 and 17 August 2025, firefighters across the country responded to 21 fires and 29 rescue operations. The incidents, caused by electrical faults, unauthorized fires, and fuel leaks, resulted in damages estimated at ₺2,049,100.

The report stated that the leading causes of fires included electrical short circuits, discarded cigarette butts, sparks from power lines igniting dry grass, unauthorized open fires, fuel leaks in vehicle engines, and gas hose leaks catching fire.
Most Fires in Famagusta
Famagusta recorded the highest number of incidents with six fires, followed by Kyrenia and Nicosia with five each, Güzelyurt with three, and Geçitkale and Çağlayan with one each.
In addition to fire incidents, 29 special rescue operations were carried out. These included rescuing people trapped in lifts and on balconies, retrieving cats stuck in vehicle engines, septic tanks, wells, and upper floors of unfinished buildings, freeing a pigeon entangled in ropes in an attic, rescuing a dog that fell into a well, and transferring deceased individuals to hospitals for forensic examination.
