Supreme Court: EU Spokesperson’s Statement Sparks Deep Disappointment in TRNC Judiciary

The Supreme Court of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) expressed deep disappointment over a statement by a European Union spokesperson denying recognition of the TRNC judiciary. The court recalled that the EU, through its TAIEX Office, has cooperated for years with the TRNC judiciary in training programs and seminars.

In a written statement, the Supreme Court emphasized that the independent and impartial courts of the TRNC, serving the Turkish Cypriot community for decades, operate solely under the authority granted by the constitution and laws, guided by judicial independence.
The statement also called on all parties to respect ongoing judicial proceedings currently under review by the Court of Cassation and reaffirmed that the TRNC judiciary will continue to operate in accordance with constitutional principles and universal legal standards.
