Citrus Producers in Crisis: Union Urges Government to Act Immediately

The President of the Citrus Producers Association, Turgut Akçın, warned that citrus growers are struggling as they have delivered their produce to Cypfruvex but have yet to receive payment. He called on the government to find a solution without delay, highlighting that delayed payments will increase production costs, which will ultimately be passed on to consumers.

In a written statement, Akçın stressed that producers are “desperate, unable to receive payment for their products, yet having to pay cash for water.” He noted that if growers are forced to take bank loans to continue production, costs will rise further, impacting consumer prices.
Akçın proposed that the government immediately pay the producers, with repayments from Cypfruvex’s concentrate sales used to offset the debt. “Cypfruvex should not create additional debt. The government should support the producers, and the funds from concentrate sales should be used to recover the credit provided. Solutions exist, but no one is prioritizing the producers. We demand urgent action to prevent further hardship,” he said.
With the new harvest season approaching, Akçın urged the government to act swiftly, warning that continued payment delays could affect product prices in the coming year.
