Kyrenia Forest Fire Quickly Brought Under Control

A forest fire that broke out in the Ciklos area of Kyrenia prompted an immediate response from the Fire Brigade, Forestry Department, and other agencies, with interventions carried out both from the air and on the ground.

The blaze, which started in a dangerous location, was swiftly brought under control. While the Kyrenia-to-Nicosia route was reopened, traffic from Nicosia to Kyrenia was closed from the Köprülü Junction.
All Roads Reopened to Traffic
Roads that had been closed to traffic as part of the firefighting efforts were later reopened.

Hüseyin Cahitoğlu, Head of the Prime Ministry’s Disaster and Emergency Committee, said that after the fire broke out in the Ciklos area of Boğazköy, all teams reached the scene quickly and carried out successful firefighting operations.
“With the efforts of our teams, the fire was brought under control in a short period of time. The Civil Defence Organization, Forestry Department, Police, Fire Brigade, municipal teams, and search and rescue associations all contributed to the rapid intervention. Cooling efforts are continuing effectively on the ground. I thank all our teams who took part in the operation,” Cahitoğlu said.
Police Statement
“At around 9:30 a.m. on 20 August 2025, a fire broke out in the Ciklos area of Kyrenia for reasons yet to be identified.
The Police Fire Brigade, Forestry Department, Civil Defence Organization teams, military personnel, and municipal units intervened on the ground, while a helicopter belonging to the Security Forces Command carried out aerial intervention. The fire was extinguished and brought under control.
Cooling works are still ongoing in the fire zone, while an investigation into the incident continues,” the police said.
Traffic Update
The Police Press Office announced changes to traffic arrangements due to firefighting operations in the Ciklos area.
It reported that the Kyrenia–Nicosia main road from the Kyrenia underpass junction towards Nicosia, which had been closed for safety reasons, was reopened to traffic.
However, the Nicosia–Kyrenia main road from the connection point of the Irsen Küçük Nicosia Ring Road (Köprülü Junction) towards Kyrenia remained closed. Alternative routes were provided.
Police called on drivers using the affected routes to proceed slowly and carefully and to comply with traffic signs and signals.
