Bengihan noted that KTAMS requested a meeting with President Tatar for five months, which finally took place on 28 July. During the meeting, Tatar reportedly said that the collective bargaining issue would be referred to the Attorney General for review. However, nearly a month has passed, and the promised letter has still not been sent to the Attorney General.

The union president also stated that staff have not even received cost-of-living allowances. He criticized President Tatar for ignoring the rights of workers involved in identifying missing persons.

KTAMS highlighted the following grievances:

  • Staff being disregarded

  • Non-payment of cost-of-living allowances

  • Violation of the right to collective bargaining

  • Turkish Cypriot staff feeling undervalued compared to Greek Cypriot colleagues

  • Promises made but not kept

Bengihan stressed that the union will continue to challenge this mindset.
