The dismissal decisions were cancelled, and financial and administrative support will be provided to the workers. The strike, launched nine days ago at Koop-Süt, the Agricultural Supplies Cooperative, and Binboğa Feed Cooperative—subsidiaries of the Cyprus Turkish Cooperative Central Bank Ltd.—came to an end after talks at the Prime Ministry.
Union representatives met with government officials today at the Prime Ministry and reached a settlement.
Following the meeting, Prime Ministry Undersecretary Durali Güçlüsoy and KOOP-SEN President Mehmetali Güröz announced that they had reached an understanding and would sign a memorandum of agreement.
Güçlüsoy: Dismissals and Cuts Halted
Prime Ministry Undersecretary Durali Güçlüsoy said it had been decided to work on a new memorandum of agreement with the union. Acting on instructions from the Prime Minister, he stated that they would meet again with the union on Monday, August 25. Güçlüsoy added that, within the framework of earlier negotiations with the union, consensus had already been reached on numerous income-raising and cost-cutting measures regarding the subsidiaries.
He underlined that, within three months at the latest, the memorandum would be finalised and improvements would be made both financially and administratively across the three subsidiaries. He stressed that, until the memorandum is signed, the dismissal of retired employees and pay cuts imposed on workers would be halted.
Güröz: Retired Employees Will Not Be Dismissed
KOOP-SEN President Mehmetali Güröz confirmed that the points previously agreed upon remained unchanged and that retired employees would not be dismissed.
He noted that, starting Monday, negotiations would begin on drafting a protocol to balance income and expenditure, which would also include state contributions. Güröz added that the union would not back down from previously signed and ongoing protocols.
He said the protocol was expected to be ready within three months at the latest, but the union’s intention was to have it signed within a week.
