5 Greek Cypriots’ Trial Postponed to August 27

The trial of five Greek Cypriots accused of trespassing on private property and violating a military zone in İskele has been postponed to 27 August 2025. Andreas Kypriano, Annia Kypriano, Niki Geogoria, Antonis Lourol, and Gregory Geogoria, who were arrested for conducting reconnaissance in Kalecik village and illegally entering the country on 1 August, appeared again before the Military Court.

The hearing, presided over by Judge Tutku Candaş, included the prosecution and defense attorneys Uğur Çulhaoğlu and Öncel Polili. The defense reiterated that the accused do not admit to the charges.
Key witnesses included Timuçin Aydım from the Fingerprint Unit, who presented CCTV footage and records related to construction that affected camera operations, and police officer Mustafa Sönmez from Akyar Security Directorate, who provided testimony regarding the passage of one suspect without formal processing. Officer Zafer Yıldız submitted entry-exit logs as evidence, showing Andreas Kypriano had no recorded entry on 19 July, while the other four did.
The court noted defense claims that Andreas Kypriano’s immigration record had been deleted and allowed the witness to refrain from answering, which he did. The trial was then officially postponed to 27 August.
