Üstel on Gun Permits: Public Should Not Believe Provocative Claims

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel rejected speculative reports circulating on social media and in political circles regarding gun permits, stressing that the allegations do not reflect the truth and urging the public not to be misled by provocative posts.

Üstel said the issue was being exploited for political purposes and emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening the police force to reduce crime rates.

“Most gun permits are held by our police,” he stated. “In the South, everyone who completes military service is automatically sent home with their weapon, and around 130,000 people there have firearms at home. We, on our side, are working to meet all the needs of our police.”

He noted that while the majority of permits are connected to the police, others are issued only after comprehensive evaluation when deemed necessary. He underlined that the government not only grants permits but is also determined to revoke them if any misuse or illegality is detected.

Concluding his remarks, Üstel urged citizens to disregard deliberate and provocative reports aimed at creating unrest.
