Three Drunk-Driving Crashes Reported Across TRNC in Two Days
Between 24 and 25 August 2025, three separate drunk-driving incidents occurred in Kyrenia, the Özhan-Hisarköy road, and Morphou, police said. While no fatalities or serious injuries were reported, all three drivers were arrested.
Crash in Kyrenia
On 24 August at around 9 p.m., 29-year-old Gideon Chukwuemeka Joseph lost control of his car while driving east along Aytac Street under the influence of 132 milligrams of alcohol. His vehicle veered off the road and struck a concrete manhole block. He was arrested for drunk driving and causing an accident.
Vehicle Overturns on Özhan-Hisarköy Road
An hour later, on the Özhan-Hisarköy main road, 50-year-old Tolga Kanara, with 145 milligrams of alcohol in his system, lost control of his car. The vehicle swerved off the road, hit an embankment, and overturned onto its side. Kanara escaped uninjured but was taken into custody.
Car Crashes Into Shops in Morphou
In the early hours of 25 August, at around 1:30 a.m., 39-year-old Atilla Terzi, driving with 282 milligrams of alcohol, lost control on Kutlu Adalı Boulevard in Morphou. His car mounted the curb, hit a lamppost, smashed into a supermarket’s glass front, and crashed into the entrance of an internet café. Terzi sustained injuries and was hospitalized at Cengiz Topel State Hospital. Legal proceedings were initiated against him.
Police confirmed that investigations into all three cases are ongoing.
