According to Alithia, Dimitriu’s letter to European Parliament President Roberta Metsola and PACE President Theodoros Rousopoulos expressed concerns over the continued detention of the five individuals. She claimed that their arrest was a premeditated political act, allegedly in retaliation for legal measures taken by the Republic of Cyprus against foreign nationals misusing Greek Cypriot properties in areas under Turkish control.

Dimitriu also argued that the actions of Northern Cyprus authorities violated international law and human rights and would undermine ongoing efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue.

In her letter, Dimitriu requested that the European institutions exert pressure on Turkey to ensure the release of the detained Greek Cypriots.
