68 Traffic Accidents Reported in TRNC Between 18–24 August 2025

A total of 68 traffic accidents occurred across the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) between 18 and 24 August 2025. Of these, 13 accidents resulted in injuries while 55 caused only property damage. The injury-related accidents left 21 people wounded.

According to the Police Press Office, the main causes of the accidents included speeding (20), careless driving (11), failure to stop at intersections (18), tailgating (10), and other factors (9). The total estimated damage from the accidents reached 2,896,246 TL.

Accident distribution by district was as follows: Lefkoşa – 17, Gazimağusa – 15, Girne – 25, Güzelyurt – 5, and İskele – 6.

During the same period, police traffic inspections covered 13,638 drivers nationwide. A total of 2,146 drivers were found violating traffic rules and faced legal proceedings.

Key traffic violations recorded included: speeding (759), mobile-monitored speeding (183), reckless driving (21), careless driving (36), driving without proper supervision (230), unlicensed driving (12), driving under the influence (103), using a mobile phone while driving (15), not wearing a seatbelt (29), ignoring traffic signs (78), running red lights (245), driving without inspection (76), driving uninsured or with incomplete coverage (58), unauthorized passenger transport (“T”) (17), unauthorized goods transport (“B”) (4), tinted windows (12), riding motorcycles without helmets (5), improper use of lights (21), and other offenses (425).

As a result of the inspections, police impounded 217 vehicles and arrested six drivers.
