According to Politis, Furlas, representing DISY, claims the detentions are illegal and has requested the European People’s Party (EPP) Group in the EP to draft a motion condemning the arrests. He has already contacted EPP leader Manfred Weber and EP President Roberta Metsola regarding the matter.

Furlas is also coordinating with other Greek Cypriot MEPs to engage additional political groups within the Parliament. The motion is expected to be presented for approval during the EP’s first session in September.
