Erhürman Renews Call for Televised Debate With Tatar

Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader and presidential candidate Tufan Erhürman has once again invited President Ersin Tatar to a live television debate, stressing that the public deserves to see both candidates respond to each other’s questions directly.

Erhürman was reacting to what he described as Tatar’s “angry and aggressive remarks” published in Kıbrıs Gazetesi. He argued that Tatar’s statements not only targeted him but also included unfair accusations against others.
“Mr. Tatar posed certain ‘critical’ questions to me from afar. I, too, have asked him many questions—both in the media and face-to-face—but I cannot say I have received answers,” Erhürman said.
He emphasized that the essence of democracy lies in accountability before the people:
“What is important and modern, and what befits our people, is being able to ask each other questions in front of the public during the election process and provide answers in return. I would very much like this to happen in television programs. After all, in democracy, it is the people who are the decision-makers.”
Erhürman concluded his remarks by wishing Tatar success in his election campaign.
