Four Suspects Remanded for Eight More Days in Contract Killing Case

A Nicosia court has ordered four suspects to remain in custody for eight more days in connection with an alleged contract killing plot.

Alper Yıldırım and Muhammed Ali Kalan were arrested on charges of carrying out a hit, while Mutlu Töre and Kadir Kıcık stand accused of supplying them with a firearm. The four men were brought before the court following an investigation led by the Nicosia Crime Prevention Unit and the Criminal Investigation Department.
Police officer Doğucan Kırgeç testified that the suspects were charged with “illegal possession and carrying of firearms and explosives.” During a search of a Nicosia workplace on August 29, 2025, police seized a 7.65 mm handgun and five rounds of ammunition from Yıldırım, who was arrested along with Kalan at the scene.
The investigation revealed that the weapon had been retrieved from a cemetery in Sütlüce village, where it had allegedly been left on August 26 by Töre and Kıcık. Police said Yıldırım and Kalan later collected the firearm from the site. Although Töre and Kıcık denied going to the cemetery, investigators stated that evidence contradicted their claims.
Further inquiries showed that the suspects visited a restaurant near the intended victim’s workplace on August 27 and 28, where they stayed for extended periods. Police also found an identical photo of the seized handgun on Töre’s phone. The suspects’ mobile phones have been sent to the Data Analysis Unit for further examination.
With witnesses still to be questioned and other suspects sought, police requested an extension of detention. Judge Şevket Gazi granted the request, ordering the four men to remain in custody for eight more days.
