The incident, which occurred yesterday morning, left three plant personnel and a cleaning staff member hospitalized. The CTP committee noted that the event was handled superficially and that no in-depth investigation had been conducted to determine the true cause.

While plant authorities described the leak as nitrogen gas, El-Sen representatives stated it occurred during chlorine disposal operations. The committee highlighted that the tender for chlorine disposal had been awarded to a Turkish firm, which used subcontractors and later declared bankruptcy, leaving the work incomplete. Despite court orders to finish the job, an inexperienced team was sent instead of qualified experts, placing four workers in life-threatening conditions.

CTP criticized the current management for incompetence, lack of oversight, and putting political interests above public safety. The statement also condemned claims of “sabotage” against El-Sen members who raised the issue and described the Prime Minister’s remarks as mocking the public.

The committee stressed that the public’s health, safety, and the institution’s reputation can no longer be sacrificed to managerial incompetence, urging the immediate dismissal of those responsible.
