UN Envoy Holguin to Visit Cyprus Ahead of New York Talks

Maria Angela Holguin, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Cyprus, is expected to visit the island before the upcoming trilateral talks in New York between the two leaders and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

According to Fileleftheros, well-informed sources indicate that Holguin has informed the Greek Cypriot side of her plan to come to Cyprus ahead of the New York meetings. While the exact dates of her visit are yet to be confirmed, she was initially scheduled to arrive on September 1 but postponed her trip by a day due to an unforeseen issue concerning the two leaders.
Both leaders are expected to travel to New York in the last ten days of September. Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides will deliver a speech at the UN General Assembly and meet with Secretary-General Guterres, while Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar is also scheduled to meet with Guterres.
The last informal multiparty meeting in July concluded with an agreement to hold the trilateral session at the end of September, although the exact date has not yet been announced.

The UN Security Council is expected to approve the appointment without objection.
