Police: Long Queues at Metehan Caused by South Cyprus’ Single-Lane Control

The police announced that the long vehicle queues at the Metehan crossing point are the result of the Greek Cypriot side reducing its checks to a single lane.

In a statement, the Police Press Office said that the Turkish Cypriot side has taken all necessary measures to facilitate crossings:
"At the Metehan crossing, considering the expected traffic, the Police General Directorate ensures uninterrupted immigration processing 24/7 in all available booths on the Turkish Cypriot side—three for entry and three for exit. This is done in order to speed up the procedures for those crossing with their vehicles," the statement read.
Despite these measures, the police stressed that delays persist due to the Greek Cypriot authorities’ decision to reduce their checks to one lane and carry out immigration procedures at a slower pace.
"As a result, long vehicle queues form at Metehan, causing citizens to wait for extended periods. We emphasize that this congestion is not caused by the Police General Directorate of the TRNC," the statement concluded.
