The military court had ordered the detention after one suspect allegedly crossed the Akyar checkpoint without presenting identification, with the others accused of assisting him. However, the High Court ruled that the claim of a “secret” crossing was not sufficiently supported by evidence.

The majority decision emphasized that the lower court had erred in upholding the principles of fair trial. Under the new ruling, the suspects will be released on 200,000 TL cash bail, a travel ban, and a requirement to report to the police once a week.

Whether the suspects will actually be released remains uncertain, as the ongoing trial will be reviewed in a hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
