Weekly Traffic Report: 78 Accidents, 1 Fatality, 31 Injured

According to the Police General Directorate’s report covering September 1–7, a total of 78 traffic accidents occurred across the country. One person lost their life, 31 others were injured, and the accidents caused damages amounting to 4,110,022 TL.

Speeding was identified as the leading cause of accidents, followed by careless driving, failure to stop at intersections, tailgating, and other factors. Specifically, 22 accidents were due to speeding, 19 to careless driving, 15 to ignoring stop signs, 12 to tailgating, and 10 to other causes.
Geographically, 25 accidents occurred in Nicosia, 12 in Famagusta, 33 in Kyrenia, 3 in Morphou, and 5 in İskele.
Traffic inspections carried out during the week involved 17,005 drivers. As a result, 2,825 drivers were fined for various offenses, 240 vehicles were impounded, and 7 drivers were arrested.
The report underscores the continued need for vigilance and adherence to traffic regulations to prevent fatalities and injuries on the roads.
