Selma Eylem: KTOEÖS Supports Peace and a Unified Federal Cyprus

Selma Eylem, President of the Turkish Cypriot Secondary Education Teachers’ Union (KTOEÖS), affirmed that the union stands for a peaceful, solution-oriented, and unified federal Cyprus. She stressed that calls for a two-state solution ignore UN resolutions and reiterated that KTOEÖS will continue its struggle for an equal, just, and democratic society.

According to a statement from KTOEÖS, Eylem condemned separatist rhetoric and policies from both sides that aim to undermine the federation, which she described as the only viable solution model for Cyprus.
Eylem highlighted that KTOEÖS has long upheld principled advocacy in both class-based and societal struggles. She noted that pursuing a two-state solution contradicts UN Security Council decisions.
Emphasizing a commitment to avoid further conflict, suffering, destruction, and loss, Eylem stated that KTOEÖS supports resuming negotiations based on the 1977–79 Doruk Agreements and the Crans-Montana compromises, with the goal of achieving a unified federal Cyprus. For this reason, the union did not attend President Ersin Tatar’s briefing on the two-state solution proposal.
Eylem concluded, “KTOEÖS reiterates to the public that it will continue its struggle for solution, peace, and a free, independent, and unified federal Cyprus, building a society grounded in equality, justice, democracy, secularism, and a culture of peace, resisting all forms of coercion.”
