YSK Orders Removal of Erhürman Video Featuring Supreme Court

The Supreme Election Board (YSK) has ordered the removal of a video shared by Republican Turkish Party (CTP) presidential candidate Tufan Erhürman on social media that included the name, logo, and building of the Supreme Court.

The YSK said the video could undermine its duty to ensure that elections are conducted impartially.
The YSK shared the following regarding its decision:
“On a video published on Facebook by CTP candidate Tufan Erhürman, it was determined that the Supreme Court’s name and logo were used, and the video was filmed within the courtyard of the Supreme Court building.
At the same time, as the Supreme Court also functions as the YSK, the use of its name, logo, and building by a candidate in a campaign video constitutes content that could harm the YSK’s duty to ensure that the election is conducted fairly and securely. Therefore, it has been decided unanimously that this video must be removed and that a copy of this decision will be sent to the Information Technologies and Communications Authority.”
