Serdar Denktaş: The Main Issue in This Election Is Not the Cyprus Problem

TAM Party founder Serdar Denktaş said the key issue in the upcoming presidential election is not the Cyprus problem but the country’s growing domestic challenges.

Speaking during a live broadcast, Denktaş stressed that the real problems are the cost of living, corruption, and unemployment, and called on voters to support a candidate who can address these issues.
“Our citizens must not forget: in this election, our main problem is not the Cyprus problem,” he said. “Our domestic problems must be solved urgently. The president should at least bring stakeholders together to discuss these issues, something we have not seen over the past five years. People should set aside party loyalties and choose a candidate who can take the country to a better place. In my opinion, that person is Tufan Erhürman.”
Denktaş noted that the Cyprus problem is now at the bottom of the public’s agenda, with citizens far more concerned about making ends meet and the rise of corruption. “Campaigners try to make it look as if the Cyprus problem is the country’s main issue. The real problems are being pushed aside, but under these conditions, the Cyprus problem is not the main issue in this election,” he said.
Criticising the government for portraying its long tenure as stability, Denktaş argued that the only things that have grown consistently are the cost of living, corruption, unemployment, and fake diplomas. “You don’t get stability just by staying in power for a long time. Stability comes through action and successful governance, not by shutting down or bankrupting institutions. They should stop talking to us about stability,” he said.
Answering questions about the TAM Party’s preparations, Denktaş said the party is actively working on the ground and is ready for a possible early election in February. “Our congress preparations are underway, and our campaign for an early election is largely ready. We are just working on some adjustments and additions,” he added.
