Christodoulides accused Erdoğan of “hypocrisy,” urging Ankara to “end the occupation.”

Recalling Erdoğan’s speech at the General Assembly, where he spoke of “peace and responsibility,” Christodoulides claimed Turkey “shifted the blame for crimes it commits every day onto others,” calling this “selective sensitivity and hypocrisy at the highest level.”

Christodoulides compared Turkey’s 1974 invasion of Cyprus to Russia’s 2022 attack on Ukraine, calling both “a clear violation of the UN Charter.”

He said Cyprus has been under occupation for 51 years, claiming thousands were displaced, women were raped, and cultural and religious heritage was destroyed.

“FAMAGUSTA IS STILL HELD HOSTAGE”

Christodoulides said Famagusta “remains held hostage” and repeated his call to Erdoğan to “end the occupation through negotiations for a bizonal, bicommunal federation solution based on political equality.”

“I am ready to answer the call of history to reunite my homeland and my people, both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots,” he said.

“CYPRUS IS A CANDIDATE FOR UNGA PRESIDENCY”

Christodoulides also announced that Cyprus will assume the EU Council Presidency in January 2026 and is a candidate for the presidency of the 81st UN General Assembly.
