“The role of mukhtars requires neutrality and independence, and the same applies to the presidency. Mukhtars are responsible for representing everyone within their jurisdiction. Similarly, the president should be a leader for all citizens of this country,” Erhürman said.

Highlighting the presidency as the only political platform that connects the country to the outside world, he added, “We must make our voice heard globally and explain our concerns. The presidential election is a matter of democracy. If a former officeholder runs again, their five-year record is examined.”

Erhürman criticized the previous administration for a lack of negotiations and inaction, noting that even the opening of a single border gate did not occur. “Not only were no new gates opened, but areas like Metehan and Beyarmudu became sources of hardship. Negotiations did not happen, and children born from mixed marriages were denied their EU citizenship rights, with no one defending them. Five years passed with nothing accomplished,” he said.

He also criticized the lack of internal policy and security measures. “The president chairs the National Security Council, responsible for safeguarding the country, yet it was never convened during this period. There were no negotiations, no action on domestic issues, and still no population policy. Five years of our children’s lives were taken, and we cannot allow another five to be lost.”

Erhürman highlighted the sense of disillusionment among young people. “Even 12- or 13-year-olds are saying, ‘I will leave this place.’ Our goal is to root ourselves in this land and help our children do the same. What unites us is our love for this land and for our children. We cannot leave a legacy of shame.”

He concluded by promising a presidency that is neutral and embraces all citizens, stating that he will continue to consult with mukhtars during his tenure.
