In a written statement, DP underlined that a parliamentary decision confirming Tatar’s two-state solution policy would be an important milestone for the national issue. The statement added: “With the opening of the new legislative year, the Democratic Party will take all necessary steps decisively alongside our coalition partners.”

The statement also highlighted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s address at the UN 80th General Assembly, noting Erdoğan’s emphasis that federation talks have ended. DP expressed gratitude for Erdoğan bringing the Turkish Cypriot people’s right to a two-state solution based on equal sovereignty to the international community, describing it as a “new reality in the Cyprus issue.”

DP criticized the Greek Cypriot administration for ignoring historical facts from 1974, stating: “The July 15, 1974 attempt to unite Cyprus with Greece pushed both Turkish and Greek communities to the brink, while the Republic of Turkey carried out a legitimate and rightful intervention under its guarantor rights.”

The statement also condemned ongoing Greek Cypriot attitudes shaped by hostility and hatred, calling them “the greatest threat to peace and stability.” It urged the Greek Cypriot side to abandon its unilateral mindset, especially in education, and allow for neighborly and fraternal relations to flourish.

Pointing to continued isolation and embargoes against the Turkish Cypriot community, DP noted that efforts to block halloumi exports are still being made by the Greek Cypriot side, emphasizing that Turkey has an important role to play in this regard.

DP stressed the need for stronger measures at all international platforms where the TRNC has observer status, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The statement concluded: “Together with guarantor country Turkey, diplomatic contacts must be strengthened with countries in the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa, as well as at the European Union level. We will continue working decisively to present the TRNC’s legitimate cause to the world, lift isolation, and secure international recognition for a two-state solution based on equal sovereignty.”
