Two-State Solution Proposal Presented in Parliament!

Üstel emphasized that the Parliament should unanimously endorse this historic decision.

In a written statement, Üstel highlighted the failure of 40 years of federation negotiations, saying, “These processes have shown that the federation model could never be realized and is based on a mere illusion.”

“Solution Must Reflect On-Island Realities”

Continuing his statement, Üstel said: “With the vision presented by President Ersin Tatar, any solution must now be based on the realities on the island. There are two distinct peoples and two separate states in Cyprus. The solution must be grounded in these realities. For it to be lasting and viable, the two-state policy is the most realistic and practical approach. It is time for our Parliament, as the legitimate representative of the Turkish Cypriot people, to approve a decision supporting the two-state solution.”

Üstel stressed that any new negotiation process can only succeed if it ensures the cooperation of two states and formally recognizes the Turkish Cypriot people’s inherent sovereign equality and equal international status by the UN. He added that the Parliament’s endorsement would align with the positions of President Tatar and Turkey.

“Today, by presenting the two-state solution proposal, we are witnessing a historic day for our state. We hope the Parliament will pass this decision unanimously, sending a clear, united message to the world,” Üstel concluded.
