Rubio: Cyprus Solution Possible Through Bizonal, Bicommunal Federation
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in a message marking the 65th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Cyprus, emphasized that a lasting solution on the island is possible “on the basis of a bizonal, bicommunal federation.”
Describing the Republic of Cyprus as “a valued partner of the United States,” Rubio noted that cooperation has enhanced trade, strengthened the fight against illicit financial flows, and contributed to regional security. He particularly thanked Cyprus for its support in ensuring the safety of American citizens in crisis regions.
Rubio added: “As the United States, we remain committed to a comprehensive solution led by Cypriot leaders and facilitated by the UN, aimed at reunifying the island as a bizonal, bicommunal federation based on political equality for all Cypriots.”
