Arıklı: Turkey United Behind Two-State Solution

Minister of Public Works and Transportation and Chairman of the Rebirth Party (YDP), Erhan Arıklı, emphasized that both Turkey’s government and opposition fully support the two-state solution in Cyprus.

Arıklı said that the visit of Victory Party (Zafer Partisi) leader Ümit Özdağ was a strong demonstration of this shared determination.
During a meeting with Özdağ and his accompanying delegation, Arıklı underlined that in Turkey, not only the ruling party but also the opposition parties endorse the two-state model. “This visit is a powerful sign that Turkey—both its government and opposition—stands firmly behind the two-state solution,” he said.
Arıklı recalled that the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) had unanimously adopted resolutions on 1 March 2021 and 18 July 2024, supporting a settlement in Cyprus based on the equal sovereignty and equal international status of the two states. “I thank Ümit Özdağ and the Victory Party for their support for the two-state solution and for their kind visit,” Arıklı added.
Ümit Özdağ, for his part, stated that the Cyprus issue stands above domestic political debates in Turkey. “We have always supported a two-state solution in Cyprus. There may be disagreements between the government and the opposition on many issues within Turkey, but our views on the Cyprus settlement model are the same. Cyprus is a national cause for both the government and the opposition of Turkey,” he said.
