Speaking to TAK and BRT following the meeting, Committee Chair and UBP MP Yasemin Öztürk said that since the proposal does not have urgency status, it can be submitted to the Assembly after five days. She added that all MPs would be invited to an extraordinary session to discuss and vote on the proposal, noting that “this is the current plan.”

Öztürk stated that all government MPs had signed the proposal and that the committee had completed its third reading, approving it by majority vote.

Pointing out that the five-day period would expire on Monday, Öztürk said, “Our Prime Minister will consult with the Secretary-General, and following that discussion, the proposal could be put to a vote on the same day.”

When reminded that parliamentary sessions had been suspended for 15 days due to the presidential election period, Öztürk confirmed that MPs could still be summoned for an extraordinary session to discuss the proposal. “That is the current intention,” she said. “Whether it takes place on Monday or Tuesday will be determined after consultations between the Prime Minister and the Secretary-General. Once a date is set, all MPs will be called, and the vote will take place.”

The committee meeting, chaired by UBP MP Yasemin Öztürk, was attended by Deputy Chair and CTP MP Ongun Talat, and members UBP MPs Hasan Küçük and Hasan Taçoy, along with CTP MP Ürün Solyalı.

The proposal was jointly submitted by several MPs from the UBP group, Democratic Party (DP) MPs, Rebirth Party (YDP) leader Erhan Arıklı, and independent MP Hasan Tosunoğlu from Nicosia.
