Erdoğan: We Witness Strengthening Contacts Between the TRNC and OTS Member States

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has strengthened its role within the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), noting an increase in diplomatic contacts and observer-level engagement. He underlined that Turkey attaches great importance to ensuring that the TRNC is represented in the organization at the highest possible level.

Speaking to journalists on his flight back to Turkey following his contacts in Azerbaijan, where he attended the 12th OTS Summit, Erdoğan said, “We are witnessing a growing level of engagement between the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and member states of the organization. Since 2022, the TRNC has been actively developing direct contacts with OTS countries as an observer state. As was the case during our Budapest summit in May, the Gabala Summit once again reaffirmed the Turkic world’s solidarity in safeguarding the inherent rights of Turkish Cypriots.”
Erdoğan also noted that the necessary arrangements had been completed to implement the decision granting the TRNC observer membership in the Turkic Academy.
The Turkish President further stated that during the summit, leaders attended via live link the groundbreaking ceremony for a mosque to be built in Fuzuli in partnership with Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. He added that Turkmenistan’s admission as an observer member of both the Turkic Academy and the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation marked “a new milestone in completing the family photo” of the organization.
