Trial of Five Greek Cypriots at Military Court Postponed to Oct. 15

The trial of five Greek Cypriot defendants, accused of “violating a military restricted area,” was adjourned to October 15. During today’s session at the Military Court, a handwriting and forgery expert from Turkey testified as the defense’s final witness.

The defendants, G.G. (M-66), A.K. (M-60), A.K. (F-60), N.G. (F-63), and A.L. (M-68), who are being tried without pretrial detention, appeared before Judge Tutku Candaş. Their lawyers, Uğur Çulhaoğlu and Öncel Polili, were also present.
The court ruled that after the prosecution and defense deliver their closing arguments in the next session, it would set a date for the verdict.
The defendants were initially detained on July 19 around 16:00 after G.G. entered the TRNC through the Akyar Land Gate in Famagusta without completing immigration procedures, violating a military restricted zone. The driver A.K. and the other passengers A.K., N.G., and A.L. were also arrested at the scene.
