Çeler: Two-State Solution Cannot Be Implemented Without Public Approval
A- A A+

According to information from the party, Çeler answered questions from Okan Veli Şafaklı on Kanal T.

Speaking about the “Draft Resolution on a Two-State Solution to the Cyprus Issue,” to be discussed in the Assembly tomorrow, Çeler said: “If a method is not clearly determined, this law will not be accepted by the people.”

He argued that making such a change before the elections and in a period when the Assembly may face new elections within a year would compromise the democratic will of society.

Çeler criticized the government, saying: “The decisions made in the Assembly do not reflect the people’s will. They will pass this law with 27-28 votes, but it will have no value in the eyes of the public.”

He stressed that a solution cannot rely solely on the will of Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots, noting that the EU and guarantor states must also have a role. “A solution without the EU and guarantor states cannot bring lasting peace to the island,” he said.

Çeler also criticized references to a “Turkish Cypriot State” and the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,” calling the situation “very confused.”

He pledged to continue fighting for the future of Turkish Cypriots, noting that this struggle would intensify with Tufan Erhürman running as a presidential candidate. Çeler also stressed that Turkish Cypriots should have EU passports and equal rights in education and trade.

“GREEN LINE REGULATION AND FUTURE OF TRADE AT RISK”

Çeler warned that the Green Line Regulation is in danger: “If the Greek Cypriot side dominates the EU, there will be major problems in trade and tourism.” He added that suspending the regulation would severely impact trade and industry, and blocking passage from south to north would negatively affect regional commerce.

Addressing the business community, Çeler emphasized that protecting the Green Line Regulation is vital.
