Suspect Living Illegally for Nearly 10 Years Detained for Three Days

Rumbidzai Cathrine Mwale, identified in the Nicosia walled city, was brought before the court for residing in the country without authorization since March 16, 2016. She was ordered to be detained for three days for investigation purposes.

According to police, Mwale was apprehended during immigration controls in Nicosia. The officer explained to the court that on October 10, 2025, at around 10:00, immigration teams conducting checks in the Nicosia walled city determined that Mwale had been residing in the area for 3,495 days without proper immigration permission.

The police stated that deportation proceedings against the suspect have been initiated and requested an additional three-day detention for investigation purposes.

Considering the testimony, Judge Şevket Gazi ordered that Mwale be held in custody for three days to allow for further investigation.
