The Iranian-born businessman, who holds TRNC citizenship, was taken into custody at Nice Airport at the request of Greek Cypriot authorities.

According to family sources, French officials stopped and questioned Jafari based on a complaint filed by the Greek Cypriot side alleging “property violations.” The complaint reportedly concerns the alleged unauthorized use of Greek Cypriot-owned properties located in the northern part of Cyprus.

The family stressed that Jafari has been engaged in lawful business activities in the TRNC for many years, insisting that there is no illegal conduct involved and that the detention carries political implications. They urged French authorities to ensure a fair legal process and called for the immediate launch of diplomatic initiatives to secure his release.

The incident has reignited international attention on the island’s ongoing property dispute and has caused significant unease among the business community in Northern Cyprus.

Expressing deep concern that Jafari’s legitimate business operations in the TRNC are being portrayed as criminal, the family appealed to the public for support, fairness, and reason.
