Cevdet Yılmaz: Federation Model That Has Failed for Half a Century Is Now Exhausted

Turkey’s Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz welcomed the Republic Assembly of the TRNC’s approval by majority vote of the “Proposal for a Two-State Solution to the Cyprus Issue,” stating, “The federation model, which has failed for half a century, is now exhausted.”

In a social media statement, Yılmaz said, “An important step reflecting the will of the Turkish Cypriot people was taken today in the TRNC Republic Assembly. We are pleased that the proposal, based on the principle of a two-state solution to the Cyprus issue, was approved by majority vote.”
“The Federation Model Is Now Exhausted”
Describing the decision as a strong demonstration of the Turkish Cypriot community’s determination to protect its sovereignty, identity, and future, Yılmaz added:
“The federation model, which has yielded no results for half a century, is now exhausted. A realistic, sustainable, and fair solution on the island is only possible on the basis of two sovereign, equal states. We congratulate all deputies who expressed their will in favor of the two-state solution in this historic decision and thank them for their stance in the interest of the future, peace, and dignity of the Turkish Cypriot people. Turkey will continue to support the Turkish Cypriots’ right to make their own decisions and determine their own future.”
