Tufan Erhürman Wins in All Districts

In the presidential election held yesterday in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Republican Turkish Party (CTP) candidate Tufan Erhürman secured a decisive victory, winning 61.06 percent of the vote nationwide and increasing his support by 24 points compared to the 2020 election.

Independent candidate Ersin Tatar finished second with 37.77 percent, losing about 12 points from his previous performance five years ago.
Lefke Records Highest Turnout, Kyrenia the Lowest
According to the Supreme Election Board (YSK), overall voter turnout stood at 64.87 percent.
By district, participation rates were as follows: Lefke 70.40 percent, Güzelyurt 66.85 percent, Nicosia 65.30 percent, İskele 65.65 percent, Famagusta 63.85 percent, and Kyrenia 63.60 percent.
Lefke recorded the highest turnout, while Kyrenia had the lowest.
Erhürman Dominates in Nicosia
In the capital Nicosia, where 249 ballot boxes were set up, Erhürman won 68.88 percent of the vote, while Tatar received 29.83 percent — his weakest result.
In the 2020 election, Tatar had led in Nicosia with 47.9 percent to Erhürman’s 38.3 percent, marking a complete reversal this time.
Similar Results in Famagusta, Kyrenia, and Güzelyurt
In Famagusta, Erhürman received 59.47 percent, while Tatar took 38.81 percent.
In Kyrenia, Erhürman won 63.04 percent to Tatar’s 35.86 percent,
and in Güzelyurt, Erhürman secured 62.15 percent compared to 36.18 percent for Tatar.
In all three regions, Erhürman’s support rose by more than 20 points compared to 2020.
Tatar Falls Behind in İskele for the First Time
In İskele, previously Tatar’s strongest district, the balance shifted.
Erhürman came out ahead with 50.80 percent, while Tatar dropped to 47.46 percent.
In 2020, Tatar had led in İskele with 54.48 percent, enjoying a 19-point advantage.
The reversal in 2025 — with Erhürman now leading by over 3 points — is seen as a clear sign of changing preferences among centre-right voters.
From 2020 to 2025: A Shift in the Political Landscape
Five years ago, Ersin Tatar won the presidency by carrying key districts, but in 2025 he suffered losses across all regions.
In contrast, Tufan Erhürman expanded his base beyond urban centres, gaining ground in rural areas as well.
The 2025 election thus marks a historic milestone for the CTP — the first time the party has won in every district of the country.
