Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides congratulated Erhürman and declared that the Greek Cypriot side is ready to resume negotiations from where they left off in Crans-Montana.

Fileleftheros: Erhürman’s Victory Shifts Focus Back to the Cyprus Issue

Fileleftheros ran the story under the headlines “Erhürman’s Victory – Eyes Now on the Day After and the Cyprus Problem” and “President Ready for Dialogue with Red Lines”. The paper reported that Erhürman’s win in the TRNC elections had revived debate over the possible resumption of Cyprus talks.

The newspaper noted that initial messages from the Greek Cypriot side were in favour of this direction but added that many were waiting to see how Ankara, which openly supported Ersin Tatar, would react.

The report said Erhürman made no mention of the Cyprus issue in his first statement after his election, and argued that his first visit to Ankara would reveal Turkey’s true stance.

The paper added that there was curiosity over how Erhürman would position himself on the parameters set by the Turkish side — namely, Tatar’s two-state proposal and the TRNC Parliament’s decision in support of that vision.

Christodoulides Congratulates Erhürman: Talks Should Resume from Crans-Montana

Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides sent a written message congratulating Erhürman on his election as leader of the Turkish Cypriot community.

In his message, Christodoulides reaffirmed his commitment to restarting substantive negotiations for a solution to the Cyprus problem and expressed readiness to contribute to this effort “from where it left off in Crans-Montana,” within the framework set by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

He also referred to the upcoming informal expanded meeting announced by Guterres, describing it as a “critical opportunity” for restarting the peace process.

DISY Leader Dimitriou: Turkish Cypriots Rejected the Two-State Solution

According to Fileleftheros, DISY leader Annita Dimitriou said that Turkish Cypriots had “turned their backs on the two-state model.”

Congratulating Erhürman, Dimitriou expressed hope that his election would pave the way for substantive negotiations aimed at reaching a mutually agreed settlement within the established framework.

AKEL’s Stefanu: Turkish Cypriots Voted for Federation and Reunification

AKEL Secretary-General Stefanos Stefanu also congratulated Erhürman, stating that the Turkish Cypriot community has chosen the path of federation and reunification.

Stefanu emphasised the need to preserve previous negotiation gains and to focus efforts on resuming talks from where they stopped, with the goal of achieving a comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus issue.
