Özel Congratulates Erhürman: “TRNC Voters Sent a Clear Message”
CHP leader Özgür Özel congratulated CTP leader Tufan Erhürman on his unofficial 62.8% win in the TRNC presidential election.
Posting on social media, Özel said, “I wholeheartedly congratulate my dear friend and leader of our sister party, Tufan Erhürman.” He added that the Turkish Cypriot people not only elected Erhürman but also sent a strong response to external interference in the democratic process.
Özel highlighted attempts from Ankara to influence the election, saying, “Those who ignored our country’s diplomatic norms and law in order to promote their preferred candidate should take note of the message from the Turkish Cypriot people.”
He also praised Erhürman’s calm and constructive approach to relations with Turkey, concluding, “I share in the hope and happiness of everyone in the TRNC as they wake up to a beautiful new day.”
