According to Sigmalive, Christodoulides stated that he congratulates “the new leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, Tufan Erhürman,” following the outcome of the TRNC elections and eagerly anticipates an early meeting.
He reaffirmed his political will and commitment to contribute to the resumption of substantive negotiations on the Cyprus issue, as guided by the framework outlined by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, continuing from where the talks left off in Crans-Montana.
Christodoulides also highlighted that the upcoming informal, expanded meeting announced by Guterres represents a key opportunity to restart the process. He emphasized that a solution to the Cyprus problem must adhere to UN and UN Security Council resolutions, as well as the principles and values of the European Union, of which the Republic of Cyprus is a member and will continue to be.
