“If No Change Happens After Thursday, I Will Take Action” — UBP’s Altuğra
UBP MP İzlem Gürçağ Altuğra, a vocal critic of party leader Ünal Üstel, has warned that she will act if no changes occur within the party following the government’s scheduled visit to Ankara on Thursday.
Speaking on Kanal T with journalist Damla Dabis Özel, Altuğra said she expects the trip to address both the October 19 presidential election results and the possibility of an extraordinary UBP congress.
Asked whether she would resign, Altuğra replied, “If there is truly no change in our party after Thursday, I will make my announcement immediately. There are serious expectations for Thursday, and I have my own as well.” She emphasized her previous call for an extraordinary congress, adding, “After taking this stance, I will not act as if nothing has happened.”
Altuğra also dismissed reports that UBP Girne Women’s Branch Chair Fatoş Ünal Juju had instructed party members to criticize her and Resmiye Eroğlu CANALTAY’s calls for a congress on social media. “She means nothing to me. She is taking these steps because she feels cornered. Everyone acts according to what suits them,” Altuğra said.
