Guterres emphasized that, under his good offices mission, he remains ready to contribute to efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful and lasting solution for the benefit of all Cypriots and regional stability. He reiterated the UN’s willingness to support initiatives that promote cooperation and reconciliation on the island.

The Secretary-General also confirmed his continued commitment to convening an informal, broad-based meeting in the near future and announced that he had instructed his Personal Envoy, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, to visit the island to engage with both sides.

Encouraging President Erhürman to maintain a constructive and results-oriented collaboration with his envoy, Guterres added, “I urge you to work closely with my representative to build upon the momentum gained in 2025 and chart a mutually acceptable path forward on the Cyprus issue.” He also expressed his expectation for close cooperation with Khassim Diagne, the UN Special Representative and Head of Mission in Cyprus.
